To all who've contacted me regarding the proposed "Trash Mountain", In short...
We did it!
Now for the rest of the story:
After about eight hours of a county commission hearing regarding the proposed landfill in North Manatee County, it became apparent that the commission was going to vote to deny the project. After a late recess Waste Management returned to say that they decided to pull the proposal off the table completely! It was a move that was unexpected but greeted with a collective sigh of relief for everyone besides WM. It was a very climatic end to a VERY long meeting.
I want to take a moment to thank each and every one of you! The Herald-Tribune writer told me he had never seen a meeting so packed. And the commissioners made mention at the meeting that they received around 100-150 e-mails. I know all of the people who became involved made a definite impact on the result. So thank you for making an impact!
Aside from the 100 or so e-mails the commissioners received, I also turned in e-mails from 30 additional people who were not able to e-mail the commissioners and signatures of 50 people from Deer Run. I am also aware of an additional 79 signatures that were turned in for Heather Glen.
If anything comes up in the future of concern to you I am always willing to help continue to fight for Manatee County.
Thanks again and congratulations to all of you for being able to remain landfill-free near your home! This outcome shows that your actions do not go unnoticed by the county when we band together towards an effort!
